Transition

We believe that students flourish in an environment where they are recognised and valued from the outset. For many years, we have worked with our local primary schools to develop a successful transition programme to help students with the move from their primary setting to the great unknown that is secondary school. By offering many opportunities for students to visit us and for our staff to deliver ‘taster lessons’ in the familiar setting of the students primary schools, students become more confident not only of the geographical environment into which they will move but also of the academic structures that they will encounter. In order to fully support this, we have a dedicated Head of Year 7 and also a transition lead, who have responsibility for ensuring that the move from primary school to secondary school is a positive experience for all of our students.

We hope that these short videos will provide you with a taste of life at Rodborough.

Student Welcome to Rodborough

YEAR 5 MASTERCLASSES

We work closely with our local Primary Schools to ensure students in Year 5 have the opportunity to sample a variety of lessons at Rodborough.  Students are invited ( via their Primary Schools ) to attend 'masterclasses' held at Rodborough and our PE department invites students each term to take part in sporting activities.

YEAR 6 TO YEAR 7 - PLEASE ADD THESE DATES TO YOUR DIARY

  • Early March: your Home Local Authority will notify you of your allocated senior school; some Local Authorities may ask for you to accept or decline the school place offered. Please check with your Local Authority admissions team if you are required to do this and keep to this deadline.
  • 10th March: Welcome Evening for parents who have been offered at place to join - hosted by Mrs Hunston, our Principal.
  • By the end of March; we will have sent you, by email, an online link to complete a digital registration form to join Rodborough School.
  • Throughout May & June: we are delighted to provide those students who have been allocated a place at Rodborough, the opportunity to join an extra-curricular programme, prior to them joining in the Autumn term.  This gives students the chance to meet their new peers, sample the activities on offer and meet our staff. Senior Rodborough students ( from Year 10 & Year 11 ) and current Year 7 students also visit our local primary schools to deliver assemblies and speak to Year 6’s who will be joining us in the Autumn Term.
  • During June: we visit local primary schools to meet the children either via an assembly or in delivering a lesson.
  • Tuesday 1st July and Wednesday 2nd July (both days): students who have been allocated a place to join us will partake in two Induction/Transition Days which are held in the Summer Term.  This gives all the students the opportunity to meet their tutor for two whole days, orientate themselves with the site and experience lessons with us prior to their starting at the beginning of September.
  • Tuesday 1st July: parents evening held at Rodborough School.
  • We also offer (by invitation only) small group induction sessions for those students with extra anxieties where they can meet key staff who will then maintain close links with for their first year with us.
  • Wednesday 3rd September 2025 – Students start at Rodborough.
