WMAT Book Awards 2024

Book awards 5

Thursday the 27th June saw a group of upper school students take part in an inter-school voting morning for the trust book awards.  Students had the opportunity to share opinions on books they have read over the last fourteen weeks with students from schools across the trust. After many animated discussions on the shortlisted books, students voted for their favourite – ‘Happyhead’ by Josh Silver - and heard a talk and Q&A with last year’s award winner, Danielle Jawando. Massive thank you to our upper-school students for getting stuck in with discussions and being excellent representatives for the school.

The voting morning was the culmination of weeks of reading and meetings in the LRC to discuss what they had read. Every school had unique opinions on the books and it was very impressive how articulate and open students were with their own arguments and in hearing opinions of others. Thank you to Weydon for hosting, Mrs Daniels for organising and Mr Venton for his ongoing support of all thing’s literacy.

We hope to involve even more students at the WMAT book awards next year - fingers crossed we get to hear from another winning author!
